Checkpoints Project Data Collection & Retention Policy
Effective Date: August 1st, 2026 | Operated by: Technological Adventures LLC
This Data Collection Policy explains the specific mechanics of how data is gathered, stored, and systematically deleted on the Checkpoints platform to maximize user safety and minimize legal exposure.
1. Data Retention Limitations
To ensure user safety and prevent data from falling into the wrong hands, Checkpoints enforces strict data retention limits:
- In-App Messaging (7-Day Rule): All peer-to-peer messaging within the application is permanently and automatically deleted within seven (7) days. Users are responsible for securely saving necessary contact information before this period expires.
- SOS Recordings: Audio and video footage recorded via the SOS feature is stored securely on Technological Adventures LLC’s remote servers. Users are required to keep the locally recorded footage on their device for at least thirty (30) days as a backup in case the remote upload is corrupted.
2. Media and Content Collection Rules
To protect the original poster and the wider Checkpoints community, data collected via user uploads is subject to the following rules:
- The "Feelings" Framework: To mitigate legal exposure (such as defamation suits from abusers), user-submitted data is collected and framed around feelings and personal interactions, rather than explicit factual claims of events.
- Prohibited Media Data: We actively reject and remove data containing sexually explicit material, graphic photos of abuse, or photos/media that can be traced back to a specific individual (e.g., a photo only one person had access to).
- Media Consent: Any media collected or hosted by Checkpoints containing group shots or identifiable features must have the express, verified consent of ALL individuals in the photo/video.
3. Device and Usage Data
When you use Checkpoints, we automatically collect basic device and usage data (such as IP addresses, device identifiers, and log data).
- Purpose: This data is strictly used for security purposes—specifically, to identify, block, and report users who are violating our Terms and Conditions, exploiting the platform, or compromising the safety of the Checkpoints community.
4. Right to Deletion and Anonymization
You own your story. At any time, users have the right to request the deletion of their account and associated data.
- In the event of an SOS recording, the victim/recorder has the right to have their personal data (face, voice, identifiable markers) scrubbed, blurred, or altered from the server-side recording to preserve their anonymity while keeping the assailant's data intact for evidentiary purposes.
5. Changes to these Policies
Technological Adventures LLC reserves the right to edit, modify, and change this Privacy Policy and Data Collection Policy at any time. Users will be notified of any changes via electronic communication.
For questions, concerns, or to report a compromised account, please contact Technological Adventures LLC's local office immediately.
