Checkpoints Media Policy

Due to the sensitive nature of the stories shared by members of the Checkpoints community, we ask that any media shared, whether by private individuals or mainstream or independent news outlets, adhere to the following guidelines:

1. No selfies or group shots taken without express consent of ALL individuals in the photo.
2. No names listed in captions, articles, blogs, or other types of media without express consent of ALL individuals in the photo or interview.
3. For news outlets, for video or print publication: Any group photos taken at an event of Checkpoints users must not have identifying features (such as people’s faces) without express consent of ALL individuals. This applies even in large group settings such as 5 (five) or more people in a picture where identification is not usually needed for publication.
4. Social media bloggers must get consent to film/ publish video of all individuals whose likeness and image is captured in their video blogs, even if said individuals are in the background of the video.
5. If news outlets or social media bloggers are unable to obtain consent, footage will be confiscated and/ or destroyed.
6. A neutral area (Checkpoints backdrop, no community users present) will be provided for news outlets and bloggers to use for photos/ filming.
7. Photos/ videos of Checkpoints staff is allowed, unless an individual declines or you have been notified beforehand to not take photo or video of them.
8. Please tag us in your photos. Be aware that we will ask for proof that you have obtained consent to post your photo on social media.
