Checkpoints Project Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 8.1.26 | Operated by: Technological Adventures LLC
1. Introduction
Welcome to Checkpoints (the “website”, “application”, “service”), operated by Technological Adventures LLC. Because Checkpoints is a community built on protecting women and holding abusers accountable, your privacy and physical safety are our absolute highest priorities. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, protect, and handle your personal information.
By using Checkpoints, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our platform.
2. Information We Collect
To provide a safe and functional environment, we collect the following types of information:
- Account Registration Data: When you sign up at our local office or online, we collect private identifying information to verify your identity and ensure you are not a bad actor. You will also create a secure username and password.
- User-Generated Content: This includes the stories, "feelings-based" warnings, and media you post to the platform.
- In-App Communications: Direct messaging between users on the platform.
- SOS Alert Data: If you trigger an SOS alert, your device will record audio and video footage, which is collected locally on your device and remotely on our servers.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To Protect the Community: We use your account data to verify your identity, keep abusers off the platform, and immediately revoke access if an account is compromised.
- To Support Legal Accountability: SOS alert recordings are stored on our remote servers to help establish a pattern of behavior for alleged attackers in a court of law.
4. How We Protect and Share Your Information
- Anonymity First: We will never publicly share your identifying information. Checkpoints operates on strict anonymity.
- No Third-Party Selling: Technological Adventures LLC will never sell your personal data to third parties, marketers, or data brokers.
- Legal Compliance and SOS Footage: If SOS footage is submitted for legal evidence, those involved can request that their image be removed/blurred and their voices altered. If you submit footage but wish to remain completely anonymous, we will honor that request and only retain the footage of the alleged assailant.
- User-to-User Confidentiality: As per our Terms and Conditions, users are strictly prohibited from sharing any platform content, screenshots, or user identities externally.
5. Age Restriction
Checkpoints is strictly for individuals aged 13 (thirteen) or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a user is under 13, their account and data will be immediately deleted.
6. Compromised Accounts
If you believe your account has been compromised by an abuser or unauthorized party, contact us immediately. We will use your username to revoke all access, delete the compromised account, and issue you a new account.
7. Right to Deletion and Anonymization
You own your story. At any time, users have the right to request the complete deletion of their account and associated personal data.
- How to Request Deletion: You can request account deletion directly within the application by navigating to Settings > Delete Account in application. Alternatively, you may request account deletion without accessing the application by visiting https://checkpointsproject.com/signuppage.html and tapping the "email us directly" button, or by contacting our local office directly.
- Deletion Process and Timeframe: Because user accounts are closely tied to active community warnings and directory listings, our staff must manually scrub your data to ensure the integrity and safety of the platform. Once a request is submitted, our team is notified, and your account and associated data will be permanently deleted within ten (10) days.
- Expediting Your Request: To expedite this timeframe, we strongly encourage users to manually delete any of their active marketplace listings or posts within our various community features prior to submitting the account deletion request.
- Safe Word Deletion Check: To verify your identity while maintaining your strict anonymity on the platform, you will create a unique safe word during sign-up. When you submit an account deletion request—whether in-app, via email, or in person—you will be required to provide this safe word. Once your safe word is successfully verified, your account and all associated data will be manually permanently deleted.
- SOS Recordings: In the event of an SOS recording, the victim/recorder has the right to have their personal data (face, voice, identifiable markers) scrubbed, blurred, or altered from the server-side recording to preserve their anonymity while keeping the assailant's data intact for evidentiary purposes.
